Alberton JV finishes strong
by Mark Hebert
The JV version of Alberton Lady Panther’s basketball ended their season on a high note last Thursday as they downed Hot Springs 42-29 in their last game of the year. With the win, Alberton finished the season with a record of 7-and-8 and went a long way in gaining experience they will use at the next level next year.
“The season went well,” said freshman Shauna Hendrickson. “We accomplished a lot from the beginning of the season and that’s what playing on junior varsity is about.”
In the win over Hot Springs, Alberton trailed early, but righted their course in the second quarter outscoring their foes 18-4 on their way to the 13-point victory.
Sierra Scheffer scored a team high 16 points while Dustine Wing netted 13, Cleo Talbot had seven, Hendrickson had three and Nettie O’Rourke scored one.
“We got more experience and we all played minutes and got into games,” said Hendrickson. “We also got to see what it feels like to play on varsity so we learned a lot this season.”
Hendrickson said that her and her teammates weren’t sure how they would do when the season started, but added that she felt the met and then surpassed their expectations and pointed to their head coach, Rachel Clevenger, for a lot of their success.
“She’s a great coach,” said Hendrickson. “You can ask her about things and she’ll let you know about anything you’re doing wrong.”
