BUTTE - The Alberton Panthers got 21 points from Cody Nagy, and pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 58-44 win over Shields Valley Friday, to make the Western C Divisional title game at the Maroon Activities Center.

The Panthers (22-1) led just 37-32 heading into the final quarter, but were able to put away the Rebels and earn a chance at their first state tournament since 1971.

Alberton will face Gardiner (22-1) for the title at 8:30 p.m. Saturday. The defending state champion Bruins shot 56 percent and handled Charlo 66-38 in Friday’s other semifinal.

Charlo (16-7) and Shields Valley (14-9) fell into Saturday loser-out games. In Friday’s loser-out contests, Twin Bridges ousted Victor 59-45 and Drummond downed Sheridan 55-43.

Brandon Kohlwes added 11 points and Kort Graf chipped in 10 for Alberton. But Nagy, the Panthers’ senior point guard, had the biggest night, going 7-for-14 from the floor, including a 3-pointer.

That offset 13 points and 17 rebounds by Shields’ Brock Arthun. Jessy Logan added eight points and 12 rebounds for the Rebels, who just shot 29 percent from the floor. Allen Lemon added 12 points before fouling out.
